The Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (Helsinki Commission) monitors compliance with the Helsinki Accords and promotes human rights, military security, and economic cooperation across Europe and Central Asia. It consists of members from both chambers of Congress plus executive branch representatives.
The commission holds hearings, conducts investigations, and issues reports on human rights abuses, democratic governance, and security threats across the 57 participating nations of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). It has been a leading voice on issues like political prisoners, press freedom, corruption, and election integrity in Europe and Eurasia.
