The United States is currently short by as many as 5.5 million housing units, a gap driven by rising construction costs, regulatory delays, outdated zoning rules, barriers to community bank lending, and increased demand placing additional pressure on housing supply.

That’s why House Republicans are advancing a pro-growth housing agenda, including the Housing for the 21st Century Act, which focuses on expanding housing supply, modernizing federal housing programs, and strengthening community banks’ ability to finance new construction.

“We are not facing a housing affordability crisis because Americans stopped working hard.
