Mr. LUJAN submitted an amendment intended to be proposed by him to the bill S. 1383, to establish the Veterans Advisory Committee on Equal Access, and for other purposes; which was ordered to lie on the table; as follows: At the appropriate place, insert the following: SEC. __. GAO STUDY ON DOGE MEDICAL RESEARCH FUNDING REDUCTIONS. (a) In General.--The Comptroller General of the United States (referred to in this section as the ``Comptroller General'') shall conduct a study on the impact of reductions in Federal funding recommended by the Department of Government Efficiency on the following types of medical research: (1) Neurological research, including relating to stroke, Alzheimer's disease and related dementia, and other neurological conditions. (2) Cancer research, including basic, translational, and clinical cancer research. (3) Pandemic preparedness, including research and development related to emerging infectious diseases, vaccine development, surveillance, and public health preparedness. (4) HIV/AIDS research, including relating to prevention, treatment, and cure of HIV/AIDS. (5) Women's health research, including relating to addressing conditions and health outcomes affecting women across the lifespan, including maternal health. (b) Requirements.--The study under subsection (a) shall include-- (1) an analysis of changes in funding levels over the 4- year period immediately preceding the date of enactment of this Act for each type of research described in paragraphs (1) through (5) of subsection (a); (2) an assessment of the impact of such funding changes on-- (A) the number and scope of active research projects; (B) clinical trials and translational research; (C) workforce capacity, including researchers, clinicians, and trainees; (D) the pace of scientific discovery and innovation; (E) research institutions in each State; (F) neurological and cancer research relevant to veterans and service members; and (G) the global leadership of the United States in biomedical research; (3) an evaluation of any impacts on patient outcomes, where data is available; (4) an analysis of geographic disparities, including impacts on rural and underserved communities; (5) any delays in life-saving treatments attributable to such changes in funding levels; and (6) such recommendations as the Comptroller General determines appropriate. (c) Report.--Not later than 18 months after the date of enactment of this Act, the Comptroller General shall submit to Congress a report on the study conducted under subsection (a). ______
