RECOGNIZING THE COUNCIL GROVE REPUBLICAN

Congressional Record, Volume 172 Issue 44 (Tuesday, March 10, 2026) [Congressional Record Volume 172, Number 44 (Tuesday, March 10, 2026)] [Senate] [Pages S956-S957] From the Congressional Record Online through the Government Publishing Office [ www.gpo.gov ] RECOGNIZING THE COUNCIL GROVE REPUBLICAN Mr. MARSHALL. Mr. President, I rise today to celebrate the Council Grove Republican, a remarkable smalltown newspaper serving the people of Council Grove, KS. With a population of roughly 2,200, Council Grove has been recognized as the smallest American town with its own daily newspaper. Since 1872, residents of Council Grove have relied on this publication to keep [[Page S957]] them informed about the news that directly impacts their community. The beloved newspaper has served as a trusted source for generations, covering everything from local politics to high school sports and community events. While many smalltown newspapers across the country have closed their doors, the Council Grove Republican continues publishing editions every Monday through Thursday. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of Jan Sciacca, Christy Jimerson, and Kay Roberts, the publication will strengthen the Council Grove community for years to come. I now ask my colleagues to join me in honoring the Council Grove Republican and its staff for their commitment to informing and connecting the residents of Council Grove. Their efforts ensure that this historic publication remains a reliable source of local news and information. ____________________
