<span>Shutdown exposes what has gone wrong in Washington</span> <div class="evo-article__body"><p class="c-paragraph">Dedicated federal workers have now been furloughed or forced to work without pay for 40 days. I hoped this shutdown wouldn’t last more than a week. I expected more from my Democratic colleagues and couldn’t imagine they could justify holding the American people hostage for this long.</p><p class="c-paragraph">The first missed paychecks are beginning to hit home for civil servants.
